Judge Griffin's Current Role Judge Griffin was appointed to the bench in 2008. He is assigned to the Chancery Division's Mortgage Foreclosure/Mechanic's Lien Section, Circuit Court of Cook County.

About John C. Griffin Judge Griffin was born on Chicago's South Side. Griffin graduated with honors from St. Rita High School (1969) and later graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame (1973). He graduated cum laude from the DePaul University College of Law(1976).

After passing the Illinois Bar, Judge Griffin began his career in law in 1976 when he served as a law clerk to the Honorable John F. Hechinger in the Chancery Division in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Thereafter, he joined his uncle at Griffin & Gallagher as a partner. He later became owner of the family law firm and worked there until he went on to the bench in 2008.

Griffin is married to Mary Ellen Scalzitti Griffin. He is the father of three adult children. In his free time, Griffin enjoys running and his involvement in various community organizations.
